I procrastinate from my real work by designing retro miniatures, you can find them all here https://cults3d.com/en/users/Doctor-Spork/creations
Cheers, I think it might be my only vibe when it comes to miniature painting 😂
None of them are.
The figures in the original post are from a kickstarter coming out later in the year, I don’t have anything to do with it myself but I was lucky enough to get a set of the early casts.
The tank is one of my own designs that I 3D printed, I’ve uploaded it to Cults 3D https://cults3d.com/en/users/Doctor-Spork/3d-models
The other fully painted ones I posted in the comments are from a couple of places. The big fell with the sword is from L72 Miniatures https://l72smetalminiaturesmusings.wordpress.com/ and the other two are tech cultists from Checkpoint Miniatures https://www.checkpointminiatures.co.uk/shop/ftw13-tech-cultists-with-leader/
To add to this I have the patriarch and landspeeder from L72 Miniatures, a bunch more of the tech cultists to use a brood brothers, a magus from Hybrid Miniatures, the land raider proxy I designed and 3D printed and a scratch built limo that I am building from a toy car.
This was meant to be a dozen figures and a limo for playing skirmish games with because my wife bought me some of the tech cultists, but as these things often do the scope of this project has grown arms and legs. Which is sort of appropriate for a Genestealer Cult I suppose.
They’re a purestrain proxy from Hybrid Miniatures, I think it’s inspired on the original art work for genestealers in the Rogue Trader rulebook. I’m attempting to make the whole army from non GW miniatures.
They are really nice models, I’ve got another five of them to paint at some point.
Cheers, these were the first ones i finished. So in theory they should look something like this when I am done.
Cheers, there are another five and patriarch to add to this lot
Cheers.
These were the first four that I did for a game of Necromunda at BOYL, So the rest should end up looking like them.
I should be up for that, I’ve really been getting into the swing of things with my painting recently.
Not a chance, the new one is over twice the height of this fella
Another update on the Avatar, been working on a base for him as well.
Time permitting I would love to.
It’s one of the reasons I take so ling to paint anything, there is something like six thin coats of white paint on them all.
Cheers. The Bezerkers are going to be part of an Emperors Children warband so I wanted them to have more colour than just red.
Thanks. I modelled it in blender and was trying to mash up the old epicast model and the original rhino kit
Lovely job, well done
Cheers, still work to do smoothing out that gradient though.
Before answering your questions I’d just like to say that you are off to a great start. The figure in the main picture has a good movement to it and feels like a natural pose.
If you don’t already keep a bits box. This should be where you keep spare parts from sprues or that you have cut off any models you have been kit bashing. I also chuck in things that might be useful that would otherwise end up in the bin, wire, mesh, tubes, scraps of plastic packaging that can be repurposed, just whatever you think might be useful.
I use unscented Dettol. Leave plastic or metal in it overnight and use some fresh Dettol and a toothbrush to clean them up. Just be sure to put plenty of paper down underneath as the paint gunk dries and can pretty much only be cleaned up by scrubbing it with more Dettol.
Looking at your other comments I would also recommend the Howling Griffons, but if you have a colour scheme that you think would look cool just use that and make yourself a nice successor chapter. Personally one of the things I have always enjoyed about 40k is being able to make up your own lore.
One last piece of advice if you plan to do more sculpting with putty. Try getting your hands on some greenstuff, it is my modelling putty of choice and gives the best finished product in my opinion.
Been (slowly) working on an old Avatar of Khaine
Working on some Khorny Boys to join an Emperors Children warband
Can you find anyone who provides samples?
I have used this website (UK based so no help to you I’m afraid) in the past and they provide small quantities of filament for you try https://3dfilaprint.com/filament-samples/
Might be worth having a look around to see if there is anyone stateside who does a similar service.
Cheers, I use the Vallejo’s golden olive. It really pops.
