Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would you want to live in a country other than your own? If so, where and why?
3·7 days agoI’m just really tired of pretending we don’t have problems. What’s happening to health care here is distressing, and so is the fentanyl problem. Housing sucks too.

3·7 days agoI’d start now. Immigration has grown quickly a lot less popular in Canada and the government dials it back when people get angry about their own quality of life here.

3·7 days agoIt’s not everything you think it is. The fentanyl addicted homeless problem in the cities is getting brutal, and the lack of decent transit is hard, and honestly we have our share of kooks. It is also becoming embarrassingly racist because some white Canadians are starting to openly hate immigrants, which I blame the government for as it’s basically a glorified slavery system now and not a way to bring talented people to work here. That is not the fault of new immigrants, but these Canadians hate African, Indian, and Muslim immigrants a LOT, and it’s honestly embarrassing.

7·7 days agoSometimes I’d like to try life in Europe somewhere, I’m lucky to live in Canada but I’d like to see life where we really have a robust social safety net and not just a nod to it.
I love pets. This is why I’ll have no more new pets. The bills just are too much.
No it’s an old meme actually.

1·2 months agoWhen I was a child nobody carried water bottles with you. There was the shared school water fountain and that was it.
I’m middle aged, I’ve never smoked, at the most in my younger years I’d drink one glass of wine or cider or something like that a week. I don’t anymore, I have maybe 3 drinks a year tops now. It’s amazing to me how my parents’ generation is still alive because they smoked like fiends and drank buckets of rum and cokes on the weekends, and I’d say that they weren’t big drinkers compared to others.
Absolutely. Especially when they start emailing you every day.

It’s great for talking to my friends out of country instead of stupid WhatsApp, but I got some weird messages on there.

6·2 months agoShe once said that her favourite thing to do with her husband was to take off in a little trailer they had and go find some place in some corner of Tennessee to camp out in for a weekend.
She also donated a million dollars to COVID vaccine research early in the pandemic, and the Moderna COVID vaccine was developed thanks in part to that.

1·2 months agoI’m not a tech person, and I truly enjoy my phone, but the only smart device I’ve ever had was a puppy cam I’ve gotten rid of and a convection oven you can turn on with an app, which I don’t have on my phone. My car is a newer model and has Android Auto and I do not use it at all. I have never voluntarily used AI beyond having it forced upon me by companies. Zero interest.
