0·5 days agoNo thanks, that idea can fuck right off. Disadvantaged minorities gain their rights by creating social friction. When you don’t have power, playing nice and just hoping one day the people in power will stop being awful doesn’t work. Every single human rights advancement for minority groups has come about because those groups agitated and fought for them.
Fostering care and social bonds is also important for our mental health as the world gets more and more anti trans. But that’s a coping strategy, not a strategy to fix anything.

Technology@lemmy.world•Australians to get at least three hours a day of free solar power – even if they don’t have solar panelsEnglish
121·7 days agoYou’re not giving it away. You still get a feed in rate. And if you installed a battery at the same time, you can avoid the peak charges that kick in after the solar peak has passed.

14·7 days agoThis is a screenshot from the AER PDF on the solar sharer program, which you can find here https://www.aer.gov.au/system/files/2026-05/AER - Solar Sharer Offer fact sheet - DMO 8 final determination.pdf

I’m in Queensland, so the Energex rates apply. The base tariff rate is 26c until 11am, then free for 3 hours. Then 8c for 2 hours and then 49c between 4 and 9pm. My memory was off, and it’s only double the rate, but my point still stands. The peak time is a lot more expensive on the solar sharer plan, so you need to do the maths and make sure your usage will be shifted towards the free period and away from the peak, because if your highest usage is in the peak period and you don’t mitigate that, you could end up paying more on the solar sharer plan. You can absolutely save money on the SSO, and we use it for that reason, but you can also end up out of pocket.

4·10 days agoEvery planetoid from about a third of the mass of the moon upwards is going to be ovoid rather than flat, because of the impact of its own gravity on its shape.

Your housemate is telling you how much they value your discomfort.
Sorry for the egginess.

6·21 days agoOmarchy is a product of David Heinemeier Hansson, who calls for, among other things, the mass deportation of non white folk from Europe and “Western Nations” in general. He’s also transphobic, but that’s a much smaller part of his catalogue of hate than his racism.

Trans Memes@lemmy.blahaj.zone•me when I hear the phrase "biological male(s)" 😖English
7·23 days agoI call it what it is. Socialization as a closeted trans person.
Which is to say, it’s a mixture of being socialised as our assigned genders, but it’s also our own internal relationship and interaction with those norms and pressures. And that last part is very different between cis people and trans people.
I’m not saying trans people escape the influence of being socialised according to our assigned genders. I’m saying the way we internalise and respond to those norms, perceptions and pressures differs sufficiently that it should be acknowledged and talked about, not erased and conflated with cis experiences.

Trans Memes@lemmy.blahaj.zone•me when I hear the phrase "biological male(s)" 😖English
8·23 days agobut being trans did not make me immune to the harmful behaviours and ideas that are taught to those children perceived as boys.
Absolutely not. But you also didn’t have the same relationship with your upbringing as cis men and boys did, because you dealt with a lifetime of internalised transphobia that made you doubt who you are.
We all absolutely share some similarities with the socialisation of our cis peers, good and bad, but we did not have the same experience as them, and I think that’s an important distinction to make. “Male socialisation” erases those different experiences. But when you don’t conflate the two experiences, you can start to talk about the difference, whilst also acknowledging the commonalities.

221·24 days agoYou were raised “trans in denial”. That’s not the same thing as being raised as a cis person of your assigned gender, even though it may look like it from the outside.

No label really describes my experience well, so I just call myself queer.
