This person hasn’t used Arch since 2011 but at least it hasn’t hindered their self superiority.

Mean spiritedness and superiority aside, it’s also just very trite and hackneyed. Spirit not aside, it doesn’t even read like a joke, just someone desperate to feel superior and projecting their insecurities.

Nah, “don’t do real work” and “refuse to go to therapy” feel like weird personal attacks, and the follow-up is just restating their opinion sincerely. This person is clearly mad and can’t cope.
That’s exactly the point. It has to feel like a personal attack in order to better convey the joke. Many famous commedians construct their jokes that way. I guess that you are just not familiar with that type of humor, which is ok because it really isn’t for everyone. Something like comparing Friends with it’s always Sunny in Philadelphia - a lot of people just can’t stand Sunny jokes because they are overtly abrasive.
No, I’m familiar with the type of humor, it just doesn’t read like a joke. Again, they follow it up with just stating why they actually believe what they said.

I’ve been using Arch since I decided to go full-time Linux a year ago, and it’s really not that much work compared to when I tested out Fedora. I run pacman -Syu when I remember to, about twice a week. I update the occasional packages on the AUR once a week. I’ve never had a single broken dependency. Never had to fix graphics drivers (AMD on Wayland, so I can’t say the same about NVIDIA). I don’t even look at the wiki for 99% of the packages I’ve installed. This is definitely made by someone who hasn’t used an Arch-based distro for more than a day.
I use Mint. I don’t do anything to it. I don’t remember when I installed it, it’s been so long. It just keeps updating.
I’m probably doing it wrong. I don’t know what pacman is.
Have you done a major version upgrade ever? That’s usually the only downside to stable distros, though Mint tends to manage them better than Debian and probably a few others I could think of.
Pacman is the PACkage MANager (lol get it?) for Arch based distros. It would be apt for you. Or, you know, just Mint’s graphical app store + update manager which I have never seen a reason to not use.
I started with Omarchy last March, because I was affraid Arch was too much, but it sounded so nice. So I started with Omarchy,because it was easy to start with. Now I’ve seen that it is not actually that scary, I might switch to Arch and not use the dhh distro. I might reuse some config files though.
Dropping the system developed by a raging nazi racist is probably a good idea too!

Omarchy is a product of David Heinemeier Hansson, who calls for, among other things, the mass deportation of non white folk from Europe and “Western Nations” in general. He’s also transphobic, but that’s a much smaller part of his catalogue of hate than his racism.

honestly Arch isn’t scary to install anymore. Archinstall makes it incredibly easy.
I learned that as well. But Arch has an image of being super high maintenance and hard to install, like compiling linux back in the day. Totally invalid image, but it still persists. Anyways, I’m gonna try archinstall in my summer vacation.
I’ve been running CachyOS for a couple years, had a similar experience. There was one time in all of that where something actually broke, and I had to look up how to use my snapshots that I set up a year before and forgot about. That’s been it. Was running Mint before that, not too different (aside from newer versions of apps in the repository, which is why I switched).
As much as I enjoy the memes of arch being a pain to keep alive, as long as you’re not doing crazy shit and you keep an eye on the docs it’s easy to keep going. I’ve had the same install for over 5 years on my laptop with no issues.
You have to keep an eye on the docs? WTF? I just want to use my PC, not constantly watch out for impending doom from running an update on the wrong day.
Then don’t run arch? Arch is meant for a certain type of user, not all users. That the advantage of Linux distros over something like Mac or Windows.

The meme is an extreme exaggeration, reading the wiki for a couple minutes a week doesn’t make your system meaninglfully less productive.
Hating on Arch because it’s not your bag is just weird. It’s like getting angry at the condiment aisle because you don’t like mustard.

I don’t even keep an eye on the docs and I think the only issue I’ve had in the last 10 years was that stupid grub bug they refused to call a bug. Was an easy enough fix, chroot, installed systemdboot, never thought about it again. Ended up being kind of nice systemdboot is waaaaaaaaay less complicated.
Other than that I’ve literally never had an issue from an update. But I also don’t do much. Use plasma, play games on steam, Rarely use AUR, and update like idk once a week or so.
Jesus fuckin’ Christ… FWIW Arch is my daily driver and all I had to do to use it was install programs I wanted (I’m familiar with the terminal so I prefer yay commands to a GUI, plus I like to consciously know what changes on my machine, and GUIs often come with recommendation advertising)
And things that I didn’t do on Windows but is unique to my use case was:
- switch DE to one that can better support my specific desire of replicating Wallpaper Engine with Hidamari;
- Install openrazer-driver for (again) my specific desire of controlling my existing Razer hw with Polychromatic;
- Fiddle with xone and xpad-noone so my Xbox controllers work via their respective dongles;
- occasionally write .desktop files for the programs I wanted that only came as an .appimage
- shop around for my preferred libre Office suite
My experience with Ubuntu and Debian have been exactly the same
Nowadays with Arch for the steam deck it’s an real tamagotchi. It’s always a surprise if your games run after upgrade. /s
Haven’t used Arch (steam OS doesn’t really count) but Fedora for a long time. It is great.
I moved to Debian because life circumstances changed and my OS moved from a hobby to a tool.
In no way should anyone draw a feeling of superiority, or inferiority, from this. Different distro for different use cases.
