  • That is a good question with no real good answer. If you log into a site you don’t need fingerprinting protection, you are known to them. If you search for stuff on the internet you have too choose between good fingerprinting protection and good adblocking/security. Only Mullvad or Tor have very good fingerprinting protection. But Tor is not made as a daily driver. And Mullvad breaks a lot of stuff you may want to use. And with both you shouldn’t install any extensions, maybe just a password manager. I use Brave or Floorp (Firefox fork) as a daily driver. And yes, I modified them so it is easier to get a fingerprint. I use a VPN most of the time so even then the sites only know the IP address of the VPN service. But I want some convenience and good adblocking for my needs ( even the adblocking lists you use or don’t use can leave a fingerprint). And if a site uses modern fingerprinting you have no real chance. I found this test page and it is disturbing how good it is:

    https://kuber.studio/cookie/

So, if you want to be anonymous use for this Mullvad or maybe Brave with standard settings and a VPN just for anonymity. And another browser as a daily driver were you log in and for example do your banking. There you need a secure browser and fingerprinting is not your concern. Some even recommend Chrome for this as it is very save. I don’t use Chrome but I get the point. I make sure that my browser just keeps the cookies I need for sites I want to be logged in and make sure the other cookies are delete when i close the browser. And yes, there are discussions if Firefox or the Brave anti fingerprinting is better. In my experience everyone installs some extensions or fits the browser to their needs ( like page zoom etc ) and with every setting or extension you create a new fingerprint for itself. Therefore it is a bit overrated. But I use browsers with privacy protection as I don’t like that for example Chrome sends the battery charging value to a website. Hope this helps.

  • I use containers and made on for all google sites, one for Amazon, one for news sites, etc. And why don’t you configure your Browser so that all data and caches are deleted when you close the browser? it is the same effect as private browsing without the flag private browsing. And if you want to avoid tracking, do you use a DNS service like AdguardDNS or NextDNS? And for fingerprinting you could use Mullvad or Librefox Browser. But they break some websites, both support containers.
