The former president’s favorability rating has remained low despite effectively clinching the Republican nomination, fresh polling indicates.

Really hard to keep this all straight. I feel like I hear “Trump polling better than Biden!” and “Trump too unpopular to win” all at the same time.

The bottom line is “they both suck”, according to the majority of poll respondents.

AFAIK, they have the lowest approval ratings ever for an incumbent US president and his opponent on the run up to an election.

It’s probably more due to increased asymmetric partisan polarization than anything. The same issue shows in polling on the economy. When Trump was in, republicans reported that the economy was great. As soon as Biden took office, the economy was doing horribly.

Like how Obama was responsible for the 2007 recession despite congress passing laws about it before he was even inaugurated. Two terms later and the country sees record economic growth… which trump then tried to take credit for…

That’s a good point but that’s always been the case, more or less, regarding the economy. I think there’s a bit more to it than that this time around.

Biden’s administration has been landed not just with the post-COVID situation regarding the economy and immigration but also having to prop up Israel’s most bloodthirsty rampage in decades.

And Trump is … /*gestures broadly/ … well, you know.
