Apple’s network issues are super weird and they should be punished for this.

So this morning when I got called to a client’s office I was greeted with something super weird. They have 2 users with an iMac 18,3 (iMac (Retina 5K, 27", 2017) Monterey) and a Mac 13,1 (Mac Studio (2022) Ventura). Both have the Sophos Client Authentication Agent installed and it just didn’t want to connect. However a ping towards any network devices and towards 8.8.8.8 was possible.

They have some network drives that they need for their work. Mind you they are all local and therefor should have worked. But when connecting to their network drive, lets say SMB://192.168.79.58, it just said cannot connect. Not even attempting and the error message was immediate. Sorry I didn’t take a screenshot.

Next I tried their WiFi for company user devices, not internal or public, since there is no Sophos CAA needed. It still didn’t let me go to any website. Like Google or Youtube.

Now comes the strange part that “solved” it for me. I restarted the iMac and logged in as the local admin. On that device the main user does not have admin rights so I know he/she didn’t modify any settings or installed any software.

On the Mac I just logged off and logged in as the local admin. This user still has admin rights. Here the internet worked. I logged back in as him/her, internet didn’t work. Reboot and login as local admin, internet doesn’t work. I log off and login as the user and it works.

Apple has become such an autistic child that just screams I don’t want to work / function correctly that I am disgusted more and more by their products and practises including their software.

So now the question. Did anyone here encounter something similar today or before and if so what the hell is going on?
