On the plus side I was both shocked and happy to learn Japan has very recently changed the age of consent from 13 to 16 whilst also recognizing consent in the context of rape which does seem like a step in the right direction.

the last point is great, but it was the federal minumum age, and every state/region had a higher age anyway
