From what I understand, it cuts both ways. That’s one. The other is deep inner child s wounding and the inability to self-regulate that replicates the issue, more Cluster B personality disorders. That seems to be the case with a vast majority of the population. Guilt, shame, ostracism and/or a lack of resources once recognized compounds and perpetuates the problem. Very few make it out without intervention, especially early intervention. It can be done, though, by a lucky few and un/lucky convergence of events.
