We’re still trying to get the state of Georgia to stop glorifying the Confederacy and it’s leaders.

When I grew up in the northern states, I thought that the Confederacy was long dead and we’d all moved on. I even absorbed some of the ‘lost cause’ narrative that their leaders were honorable (if misguided) men. Or that ‘states rights’ was about maintaining local control and greater government accountability.
Those were lies, and it took years of listening, studying, and eventually moving to Georgia for me to understand.
The Confederates were not simply ‘conservatives’ who tried to hold onto the status quo. They were fanatics and traitors – all in the name of slavery.
