This sounds about right, as, if we look at Biden’s election, slightly less than a third voted Biden, a little bit less than that voted Trump, and a little more than a third abstained from voting.
To he fair, a fraction of a percent voted 3rd party. I attribute this to:
Noone is actually stepping up to a third party/RNC and DNC have gotten REALLY good at curbstomping strong third party candidates, accelerated by Citizens United.
FAR too many Americans are still drinking the “a vote that is not for my red/blue tyrant is a vote for the red/blue tyrant that I am not voting for” Kool aid, which Is frankly complete horseshit.
Look, last two elections I looked at the third parties, the most prominent was when it was Trump v Hillary.
Green party couldn’t get a candidate that felt coherent enough to put up a fight against any of the other parties.
Libertarian party has consistentently been Republicans who don’t want to call themselves Republican.
Those were the best two options. So yea… while both options suck, one is a moldering garbage fire and the other is running over to the garbage fire with gasoline, I’m going to do what I can to stop the gasoline. So yes, I can vote 3rd party, just as well as I can piss in the wind and hope it gets in one of the leaders eye.
You want 3rd party? Do the same thing the Republicans have been doing for the past 30 years and stop doing what the Democrats have considered the best plan. Don’t focus on the Presidency as the pure win/lose. Focus on it on the locals. Mayors, state legislators, governors. When the locals start following then start chipping to get into the senate and legislative branches. That’s when the chance will be had. But until a 3rd party is willing to play the same game as Republicans did where there will be no uncontested election no matter how small, no one is going to care because it’s quite telling how involved they are when all the local ballots are only filled with (D) and ®
Currently, the RNC doesn’t want Trump but can’t stop him and the DNC seems to want to lose.
You highlight a key point: Any viable candidate in moderate history has been squashed by the DNC, and that is a problem.
I dont have an answer. I have, at best, 4 names that would stomp Biden if we weren’t, as Americans, bound and determined to vote for evil, aka lesser evil, aka RNC or DNC.
Sure as shit though, I won’t vote for anyone who is Pro-genocide.
Either you live somewhere where your vote doesn’t matter, or your vote does matter, and voting third party is little more than virtue signalling at the expense of taking one vote away from a chance to beat the worse of two evils.
Not sure about how you ended it in the fentynal laced Kool aid “Two evils” rhetoric, but…
In my opinion, Biden, Bernie, Katie Porter, and Ro Khanna should be about 3 primary debates deep, and the latter 3 would be slaughtering the former.
Biden would have been DESTROYED in those debates.
Then liberal Democrats would have someone to vote for, but progressive Democrats would not get genocide kickbacks, so they just squashed that entire process.
That would suggest the former should be running independent or pushing write in campaigns, like Biden did in Vermont and Trump is doing all over.
They aren’t though, because American democracy is a lie and we are being forced to vote for genocide, and in such an election, RNC voters will turn out and disenfranchised DNC voters will not.

Numerically, isn’t number 2 accurate?
Either you live somewhere where your vote doesn’t matter, or your vote does matter, and voting third party is little more than virtue signalling at the expense of taking one vote away from a chance to beat the worse of two evils.
Erm… yes?
