There is no limit to what you can achieve with an infinite amount of expendable labor. Russia shows this all to well.
The EU defence sector needs to be propped up… more 2A7’s… more 155mm, more CV90, Taurus, storm shadow, glsdb, more, more, more. Contracts for production should include capacity for production, especially with munitions.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
Total defence spending has risen to an estimated 7.5% of Russia’s GDP, supply chains have been redesigned to secure many key inputs and evade sanctions, and factories producing ammunition, vehicles and equipment are running around the clock, often on mandatory 12-hour shifts with double overtime, in order to sustain the Russian war machine for the foreseeable future.
Early in 2023, the Russian government transferred more than a dozen plants, including several gunpowder factories, to the state conglomerate Rostec in order to modernise and streamline production of artillery shells and other key elements in the war effort, such as military vehicles.
“The war has led to an unprecedented redistribution of wealth, with the poorer classes profiting from government spending on the military-industrial complex,” said Denis Volkov, the director of the Levada Center, a polling and sociological research firm in Moscow.
Putin is trying to finance the war, maintain social spending and avoid runaway inflation all at once, in what Alexandra Prokopenko, a Carnegie endowment scholar, calls an “impossible trilemma”.
Those numbers, along with reactivated armoured personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles, meant Russia would “be able to sustain its assault on Ukraine at current attrition rates for another two to three years, and maybe even longer”, the group said.
“Today in Russia practically all military-industrial enterprises with additional state orders are working according to this schedule,” Andrei Chekmenyov, the head of the Russian Union of Industrial Workers told the Novye Izvestia newspaper.
The original article contains 1,429 words, the summary contains 241 words. Saved 83%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!
War is good for business. The military industrial complex is making bank on this shit.
If anybody is curious, here is an article from 2014 when the ideological fronts weren’t as extreme as they are now. Everything was laid out already 10 years ago, and articles keep saying “nobody saw this coming” but all was perfectly predictable back then. And that means it was avoidable with a sensible diplomatic compromise: https://www.vox.com/2014/9/3/18088560/ukraine-everything-you-need-to-know
But in the current situation Russia has no reason to negotiate or give back the land they occupy because they are basically getting what they want already.
This war, the refugees, the austerity coming on the heels of the massive costs, the increasing wealth inequality, all of this is a gift for fascists in Europe.
And no, you can’t attack Russia, they have nukes.
So we better let them bully everybody in Europe and kiss their ass, amirit?
In two years, the EU will wish it had attacked Russia now.
Russia is prepping for an EU push that will likely happen in the next two years. To prevent the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent people, the EU should attack now, before Russia has the assets they need and while they are distracted in Ukraine and at home.
the EU should attack now
No. Absolutely not.
Letting your enemy prepare for its attack against you is not wise.
Attacking Russia is just dumb though.
Are you sure? Somebody calling for the genocidal eradication of anyone politically opposed to them can’t be wrong.
So how many lifes is this moral stance of your worth? What about people close you, how many of them will you sacrifice to stop Putin?
None. Putin is bluffing. His nukes are 50 years old and have been maintained by black market scalpers for the entirety of their existence. Not a single one is capable of making it to a target and detonating.
Putin is a conservative. He only knows how to lie and manipulate others. He is lying about his nuclear capability just as he lied about his military capability.
Even without nuclear capacity we are talking about millions of people dying in conventional war. Also you have a rather unbiased view of the situation, don’t even try to reflect on it.
Putin was bluffing about Ukraine too. Or rather that’s what people said then.
This is true when you are in a conflict already and you have something to gain by doing so.
Invading russia is the mother of terrible ideas, not because nukes but it would drag the world into a pointless, even dumber war
the EU will wish it had attacked Russia now.
Nuclear holocaust 🥰🥰🥰❤️
With what? Putin’s 50 year old nukes maintained by black market scalpers?! Putin only knows how to bluff. Letting him get away with it is how we end up with conservatives dominating the normal people globally. We have to fight back, not kiss his ass. Letting the enemy continue to grow stronger is unwise.
I like how you are certain enough about the state of Russia’s nuclear armament to bet the lives of everyone on the continent on it. People said the same things about all of the tanks Russia had in storage, but they’re bringing them online and putting them in action in the Ukrainian theater just fine.
Even if 90% of the nuclear arsenal is inoperative, more than enough remains to reduce the world to cinders. Even if we assume high levels of corruption throughout the Russian army, a 90% failure rate would be outrageously high. Sure, Russia is never as strong as they claim to be. Their capacity is almost certainly exaggerated. But the idea that not a single of Russia’s nuclear weapons would successfully detonate on target is hopium to the highest degree.
He’s already telling Europe to kneel against the wall while he loads his gun. Not fighting back while he’s preparing his weapon is just letting him do it.
People talk about all the lives that could be lost by attacking him, but the lives saved will be much greater. He is preparing to oppress Europe and kill all who resist. U S. conservatives support Putin’s goals. If they hold any power when Putin is ready to push, there will be no help from the U.S.
Being on the defense will be much more costly than forcing his moves now and keeping the fighting on Russian soil.
Are you so certain of that that it’s worth risking the slaughter of almost everyone in Europe and North America?
We’re not talking about a £10 bet on the horses here, mate, we’re talking billions of lives being on the line.
So it was said Russia will take Ukraine in three days, then two weeks. It’s been a bit from then.
How do you expect Russia to take on NATO, which is far far bigger and more prepared?
We aren’t talking about taking on, we’re talking about Russia launching thousands of nukes in retaliation to an invasion.
Maybe you don’t know, but that’s fairly different to the kind of boots on the ground fighting going on in Ukraine.
How did I reply to you? I swear I was replying to a different comment.
Sorry about that. You are absolutely correct.
Because nukes do not exist in your fantasy world?
Plus organizing your army with the goal of stopping a Russian invasion means you get to make other choices than if you need to be offensive. And that gives you even more combat power.
There is no reason to invade Russia… none.
Attack Russia, best idea people keep have throughout history.
It worked for out for Ogedai Khan.
Not sure we are able to use his methods.
We do not attack other nations.
There is already a front in Ukraine. Not attacking that front is allowing this to escalate. That front is where the fighting needs to happen to keep the war on Russian soil.
Financial support for Ukranians on that front is helpful, but not enough to stop it. Assaulting the Russian forces on that front is what is needed.
This is the war. It’s already in progress. It is coming for the rest of Europe. Not fighting now will make this much more deadly and destructive when the front is moved to the EU in 2025 and 2026.
No need. We just have to give Ukraine the proper support and they can easily beat Russia. But for some reason they’re only given like 1% of western defence budgets.
