Kind of amazing. In my head this is basically saying "we can’t protect people in parts of downtown Vancouver and rather than change that, it may just be easier to abandon the area.

Shocking that things have gotten this bad.

We need to work towards a society where people are less desperate.

I think it’s worth noting the dynamics here. It’s a lawyer’s group that was requesting this and the premier said there were no plans to change the location. We can’t truly know, but in my head, my kneejerk response was to get the feeling the lawyers also didn’t want to be in a neighbourhood that reminds them of the existence of poor people (outside of those they work with, of course, who are usually trying to dress up).

I’m sure some lawyers would like to be away from the poor but at least one lawyer was hospitalized after being assaulted leaving the court.

Your response to someone being hospitalized for going to work is “Oh noes” ? That’s pretty gross.

It’s pretty gross lawyers apparently think they’re special as opposed to the rest of the plebs downtown.

So, say someone were hospitalized after being attacked for being gay and the gay community asked the city to step up and increase community safety, would you also think it’s pretty gross the lgbtq community thought they were special as opposed to the rest of the plebs?

I asked a hypothetical question you silly Billy, feel free to answer it.

Or to be honest and just say “hey, if people who make more money get hospitalized, boo hoo to them.” (Even though globally, we’re probably in the 1% of wealth etc but pesky reality don’t matter none.)

Edit: Alternatively, how about you be a woman in a nice business suit walking alone through Main and Hastings after dark and after a day of defending the poor in court? Do that a few dozen times and let me know how safe you feel. (Don’t worry, if anything does happen, I will have a sympathetic “oh noes” for you too!)

I wonder how the businesses around there are doing. If the area is getting worse, those restaurants and shops probably need to move out which makes the area even more abandon.
