Sorry for the delay, but lemmy.ml seems to have recovered from their downtime now.
Hope everybody is finding things they like in the new season of anime. It is a Monday, so that means it is time for a new discussion post. Feel free to post questions, comments, criticisms here to your heart’s content. Some thought-provoking examples might be:
- My kid loves the PreCure series, so I was wondering if “Gushing Over Magical Girls” would be another good show for them to check out.
- Is the title “Delicious in Dungeon” referring to the food they cook or to how good Falin tastes to the dragon?
- How does one use healing magic wrong? Can you hurt somebody by doing your magic backwards?
As always, remember to be mindful of spoilers. If you want to know more about how to handle spoilers in this community, check the guide here.
Gushing over Magical Girls is straight up lite-porn. That’s not something your kid should be watching, so maybe not the best example.
Haha, if it wasn’t clear, my example prompts are really meant to be jokes. Nobody ever seems to notice them, but I still laugh.
Aww, I don’t think I’ve pointed it out, but I laugh each time. Thanks for putting in the effort.
Thanks friend! Together we can keep the dream of me having a sense of humor alive. My wife gave up years ago.
I hope people are settling into the new year and new season of anime well. I have gotten to watch the premiere of a number of shows. Thought I would provide some quick thoughts below.
- Delicious in Dungeon - Not fully sold on this one yet, but I am willing to let Trigger cook some more.
- Gushing Over Magical Girls - Went into this blind and was really glad I was alone and using headphones.
- Chained Soldier - Watched this after Gushing Over Magical Girls and it felt way tamer than I expected so far given the buzz before the premiere. More is probably coming though given the setup.
- The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic - Loved seeing Rose and the VA did a great job. I had kind of forgotten a bit of the setup and that Usato was isekai’ed by accident, so it was a good refresher.
I have yet to watch Solo Leveling or start catching up on Apothecary Diaries, so nothing to say about them yet. Two shows that are starting this week that I am looking forward to Tsuikimichi season 2 and Level 99 Villainous Daughter.
@ram@lemmy.ca @N3DSdude@lemmy.ml Would one of the mods be able to pin this discussion thread and unpin the old one? Thanks in advance!
Solo Leveling – even though it only has a single episode so far – seems interesting enough, even if a bit trope-heavy so far.
Apothecary Diaries is pretty good – My wife really likes that one, and The Inexperienced you and the experienced me is over with, so she’s got something to continue on into the winter season.
Granted, I have odd anime tastes. I am really looking for something gritty and more adult (like how Goblin Slayer started), but not something that’s just there for an excuse to draw nude girls.
My wife used to be a big Ghost-Hunters fan, and likes paranormal stuff so we’re also watching Dark Gathering, which was much cooler than I had first expected.
We’re also of course watching Frieren like everyone else…
Anyone watch goblin slayer season 2?
I saw the first season, besides the first episode (which was dark AF), the show seemed kinda boring. Lots of fluff and the intense goblin slaying was few and far between. Wondering if season 2 is more of the same.
Yeah, Season 2 gets REAL tame. It’s not what I was hoping it was turning into.
Yeah, episode 1 really cucked me. Here I thought it’d be a gritty show about dealing with horrible monsters but it’s actually a slice of life harem anime that just so happens to have an action scene or two. Disappointing.
Will this be the year that FMAB is definitely dethroned from MAL’s top spot?
I doubt it, though Frieren has had more staying power on the list than past shows that have briefly topped the list. I suspect it might stay on top while the show is airing, but over time I think the MAL userbase will revert to the mean of FMAB #1. I might personally think Frieren is a better show, but when you are talking about shows with thousands and thousands of scores factored in, there is a lot of resistance to change given enough time.
No. Not a single fucking thing looks that game changing. Half of them (or more) are isekai in some way. Frieren is good, but it’s not THAT good.
