Looks like they plan to have the blue line extension ready to go in 2029 mentioned in the embedded video not the article.
The plan is to have 55% of the population within 800 meters of public transportation stations by 2040.
A little bit old, but I always like to watch the video linked below: Youtube - Dubai Progress by MetroCucumber
I hope my city becomes more like Dubai
A hellscape?
Yee, with lots of racism, homophobia, slavery and other fun stuff.
I have lived on 4 continents now and before I came to live here I had a very skewed view of how the UAE is. There laws are very consistent with the rest of the western world. You probably know someone that works here or has worked here recently and asked them how it is here.
Like the Indians that were basically enslaved to build the infrastructure for the 2021 World Cup?
You do know the UAE is a different country than Qatar?
Ah, I see… I thought I saw that it was UAE that hosted, bc I couldn’t remember for sure and I looked it up… but I guess I read too hastily.
Idk, still doesn’t sound like a place I’d want to go: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_in_the_United_Arab_Emirates
Then again, the US is getting worse by the minute, not sure how much longer I’ll feel safe here either.
No worries.
From the link you posted, what they did to address those concerns:
Not that I think that those things were the big changes, but the headline articles about what we find strange (in the western parts of the world) hasn’t been there, except for the guy who got his fine upgraded to jail time for the incident with airport staff.
Not true, and that’s in Qatar.
Everyone I know who worked/lived there came back, because it was a literal hellscape…
Okay, fair enough I guess.
Me too. I’m from Jeddah, a 2500 year-old city yet less known than Dubai.
