    This is called an LER. Light Emitting Resistor.

    It’s ok to be a little burnt out through-hole resistor, you just need to stop being under so much voltage. You don’t need to carry all that current.

    I was servicing an arcade game room at a campground, and had a Cruis’n USA in which the picture looked a bit dim. I take the back panel off of the game, and see a 2cm hole burned through the Sharp Image monitor’s chassis (circuit board) where there presumably used to be a resistor. It was still working, nobody complained about smoke or a smell?!
