I’m getting outboud email support working, but it’s turning out to be quite the mess. The provider I used doesn’t want to let me use the service Lemmy uses to send mail, so I’ve found a separate, more expensive service that I can sign up for. This supposedly should work to send emails, but it’s gonna be some work and some time for all the dns changes to shake out and replicate. I’ll post later about my struggles with my email provider, but as of now I’m going to hold off on naming them and allow them some time to make it right. I will be posting about the struggles I went through here and possibly at other Lemmy instances regarding the struggles I faced starting a lemmy instance, particularly with sending automated messages such as password resets, email verification, and notification emails.
What does this mean for me?
Unfortunately, this means users will not be able to request password reset emails. Sorry, there’s nothing to be done about this right now. You can still change your password if you’re logged in and know it already. Set up a password manager, or save it in some way that you will not forget it.
