So I have noticed lately there seem to be a lot of Tesla owners that park at chargers and forget to plug their cars it.

I get it, we are all in a hurry some days.

Now knowing that you can just push the button on the charge plug and Model 3 and Model Y will present their port for you to dock with, is it acceptable to plug them in if they’ve forgotten?

Understanding it may inconvenience them when they hit the station max or 100%, and potentially the $0.50/min idle fees for a part filled station or $1/min idle fees for a full station, but obviously they’ll need that charge to leave, otherwise they wouldn’t park in a charging bay, correct?

I mean, even with some idle fees, in some places here in Australia it’s like $3,000 to block a charging station, so in that view, would you be doing them a favour by keeping them from getting a fine?

Don’t “touch” their car, sure. Give them a thumbs-up on their sentry cam the presence of the cable somehow opens the charging port.

Oh, ffs, it is not a $3,000 fine. It is closer to $150… the only way it would get to $3,000 would be if you had 50 of them and you were summons to attend court.

Also, no. Every single Tesla driver I have ever crossed paths with in and around charging stations are entitled arseholes, so fuck ‘em, leave it unplugged, take a photo and send it into the local council or if in a shopping centre, call centre management and get their shitbox towed.

      You didn’t read the article

However, the fine amounts differ in each state, with potential fines of up to $3,200 in the ACT, $2,200 in NSW, and $2,875 in Queensland.

I have previously read the articles and they are sensationalistic garbage, designed to induce outrage.

The fines are nowhere near those levels. In NSW, the fine for parking in a charging bay whilst not charging (NSW Road Rule 203C) is $129.

(source: The actual fines, not Murdoch newspapers outrage puff pieces.)

This is such a passive aggressive comment. You mean you want permission from the community to mess with a stranger’s property. You will get that here. I personally don’t spend my days thinking the world revolves around me and would never mess with someone else’s car. Have fun pretending you’re being kind when you know you’re wanting to ensure punishment instead. Move along and stop worrying about others so much.

Have you seen the EV spots that are just preferred parking? Store, curb, Handicap spaces, EV spot. What’s the point of that? Besides the implied insult

As a Tesla driver I say go for it. They’re trying to game the system and get the parking while avoiding the idle fees. Heck do it and leave a passive aggressive note like hey I plugged you up cause obviously you forgot because no one would just park here to be an ass and block the space.
