Going in circles on the next vehicle purchase.

So we owned a BMW 640GC with the great inline 6 engine. Had every option and loved it. Picked it up European Deliver and it was a magical time and experience. It was a three year lease though and that came to an end. With European Delivery and dealers willing to negotiate pre COVID, we had about a 14% off of MSRP.

Now we’re thinking about a new x7 40i, but it’s made here, not in Germany. European delivery is cancelled. No dealer discounts, limited manufacturer rebates. So compelling reasons are gone. Also interested in a 2021 Alpina version but with a v8 and larger turbos than the 60i, I feel that’s risky. (Still has 20-months left on the warrantee). Could buy an extended 3rd party warranty good for 75,000 miles but that adds on 7-8k to the price.

Now Lexus dealers are offering 10k off on a new GX460 because the new GX550’s and Land Cruisers will be here in a couple of months. So this could be a great value play from a price and maintenance standpoint. But no heads up display or massaging seats so that’s what’s giving us pause.

Also like the MB G wagon but dealers are still selling these for over MSRP and BMW although not Toyota, has a better maintenance track record then MB. But the G wagon is built in Austria, so more reliable.

Any thought/arguments regarding these options what I may not have considered would be great.

Car market shifting fast. Stop. Stop.

Be super diligent and don’t pay anything over MSRP. Higher end luxury cars, their demand is falling off a cliff with economy slowing.
