The SUV has been having problems with the tranny for a couple years. I took it to two transmission shops, and both wouldnt touch it for less than 4000. Said it was a real pain in the butt. Is this accurate? The vehicle has 150000 miles on it. Could plugs or anything else cause the issue? The shops said that the transfer case on this model is a real pain.
The issue: when accelerating or on a hill, the tranny grinds and almost feels like it wants ro drop out of the vehicle. A very strange and concerning sound and noise.
Thank yall for any advice.
Grinding noises like you are describing sound like a failing transfer case.
There is a chain inside of the transfer case that can stretch and make a hell of a racket when it slaps against the housing or other parts.
Transmission problems mostly revolve around shifting issues, burnt fluid, vibrating torque converters, lost gears, things like that. If your problem is making odd noises, I would check out your transfer case first.
