So I bought this from eBay,
CY NVME M-Key 22x30mm to 22x80mm SSD Upgrade Adapter for ROG Flow X13
And it worked pretty good. Only thing is I can’t put the metal shield back on (I can, but then back button is too tight to push.) and the SSD touch the back plastic directly. So no heat sink. Been downloading lot of games and it seems the SSD is not getting too hot to touch (inside temp, not case temp) I recommend not too high end SSD because it will get too hot without heatsink. This is what I am using. Crucial P3 Plus 4TB PCle Gen4 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD, up to 5000MB/s Can’t put Amazon link so google it!
Considering 4TB it’s very easy decision for $179. 2TB 2230 would cost more than this. Sorry for bad English.
I wonder if kapton tape to the underside would improve the protection and deflect heat absorption for the SSD.
Also curious to know if the APU is affected by this mod.
I did a similar mod in my old ROG Ally and didn’t notice much of a difference but the layout was obviously different.
I did put thin tape on the bottom. Just to be in safe side. Don’t want SSD to short out. As far as the APU temp goes, I played 3 hours of starfield and didn’t notice any higher fan noise or temperature. The metal heat shield valve put in the new oled model don’t have any thermal pads on it so I don’t think it’s there for any heat distribution. I think if there are any issues only long term use will tell.
