My last phone was a Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and mostly everything was what I wanted except 3 gripes that bothered me quite a bit

  1. Ads in Samsung apps I remember seeing ads every time I opened Samsung pay and some other apps that I don’t remember anymore. It just seemed bizarre that would be ads in their own apps.
  2. Poor standby time The phone would drain quite noticeably when it wasn’t snt in use and almost felt like the phone would last about the same time irregardless of whether I heavily used the phone or I left it alone.
  3. Camera shutter lag This was quite infuriating. There was a noticeable lag from the time I pressed the shutter button to the actual photo being captured leading to blurry images.

I was wondering if these things have been addressed in the newest generation of Samsung flagship phones. I’ve been considering switching to the S24 from an iPhone 13 Pro sometime next year.

S23 here, I don’t see any ads ever, 2 standby time is excellent. On cellular data and using aod, i drain a little less than 1% per hour. If i go to bed at 100% wake up 8 hours later I’ll be around 95% 3 camera assistant has the option to reduce shutter lag.

Thanks for your input. Standby time sounds like a quiet improvement. I recall people were suggesting turning off AOD and other features just to get better standby time on the Note 20 Ultra. Somewhat disappointing that shutter lag is still a thing even if to a lesser degree.

Maybe the ads showing or not is based on regions? Another comment mentioning ads in some but not all apps. Standby time sounds like an improvement for sure. Shutter lag is a bit of a disappointment. I’m not a camera expert so I just want to snap a photo whenever without worrying about lag.

I don’t use Samsung pay, so the only place I see ads is the Samsung Store. I just go straight to update apps bypassing the main screen and then I don’t see ads.

Some Samsung apps show some options regarding ads when you first open these apps. I remember the Gaming Hub app asking me if I want “Customized ads” or something, I just clicked “no”.
