As the title says, I’m planning on getting my girlfriend a new phone and her S9+ is kinda on its way out the door, she is constantly complaining about it. My plan was to maybe get a used S21 ultra from my friend. He’s selling it for roughly ~$450CAD. Worth it or get something better for under $500CAD?

S21 ultra is a huge jump. Biggest is the higher refresh rate. However, especially since its for your gf, I would say the defective camera is definitely a dealbreaker.

It might be too big or too heavy so check that with her. If she absolutely has to have a Samsung then get a54, a53,s21 or s22 (regular, plus or ultra).

Or… Get OnePlus 11, OnePlus nord 3, iPhone, pixel 7 or pixel 8, etc etc.

Look at a Samsung S20 Ultra or a Note 20 Ultra if you want that form factor.

The S20 ultra has better specs and is a overall better phone then the S21 Ultra. That and you can find much better prices for the phone. Try and find pristine condition or phones listed as new on ebay or swappa.

What the hell are you talking about? The s21 ultra is LEAGUES better than the s20. Don’t lie to this person man.

Look at the spec differences, software and performance of the two phones between their price points.

The only thing the S21 offers an improvement on is a .2 extra in clock speeds, slightly smaller screen for a 4DPI increase and a stylus. It released at a cheaper price at release, but currently a S20 Ultra is cheaper by $100 in comparison because it’s a year older phone.

S9+ to S21 Ultra is a pretty huge upgrade I’d say. Any of the issues she might be having, performance or otherwise, would absolutely be solved. Not to mention the upgraded build quality/camera on the newer phones. For $450-$500 CAD I’d say it’s for sure worth it so long as it’s in good condition.

I upgraded from s10+ 2 weeks ago and I can’t believe how good the phone is! It’s almost the same size as my previous phone so that’s a plus because s22 and onwards are too big for my liking. I’m loving the battery life of 6-7 sot, the screen and the cameras. I lf you buy one get one whit new battery

I wouldn’t buy a faulty phone. Buy a proper refurbished one. There’s nothing more disappointing that getting a “new” item that doesn’t work as it should.

Yeah it’s still an amazing phone and it’s no slouch either. Amazing display, battery life, camera, speakers and plenty fast enough for anything someone might need to do.

you still got a few years of security updates left as well.

Does she want to stick to samsung? A lot of non techy people might be better off with a refurbished iPhone 12 or 13 in this situation
