I have the opportunity to buy a rarely driven 2013 CX-5. My issue is that I’m having my third kid in the spring and need to fit 3 car seats in the back. I’m looking at car seats that are specifically made for 3 across (Graco SlimFit3 LX), but I worry there still won’t be enough room. The car was my grandfather’s and is a 4+ hour drive away, so I can’t just pop over to check it out.

Does anyone have experience with 3 car seats in their CX-5? I’ve done some research that says probably not (though I’m not sure they used the skinniest model car seat possible), but the deal is way too good for me to give up on without being absolutely sure it wouldn’t work.

Any advice would be helpful. Thank you!

The biggest issue is the rear seat hip width. I fit 3 car seats (barely) in rear of a Rav-4, which has 48.9” of hip width. When #3 was born we quickly upgraded to a CX-90 with 3 rows though because the oldest and middle sitting that close, facing each other was a recipe for immediate and constant fighting lol.

Looks like 2013 CX-5 has 53.7” rear hip, which is comparable to a 2013 Accord (54.7”). Both are wider than my Rav-4 so the CX-5 should fit three across, but probably not materially better than the Accord.

Nope. We have two car seats and its “ok”. It was tough until we moved up to having both forward facing.
