They have been doing those 580 with 16GB for awhile now. Saw some youtube videos were it show it ran slower vram and thus did not make much difference for gaming. But if someone has some app that needs vram for other uses it may be worth it. I think the 3080 has better chance of taking advantage of more vram. Will be interesting to see how much this modified gpus will cost.

The RTX 3080 definitely could take advantage of extra VRAM, with just 10 GB it can struggle in some tittles on Ultra settings at 4K.
