Thinking of going for a base 991.1 for my car of choice and was wondering how feasible and reliable the 991.1 is going to be in a daily driving scenario? I think I’ll be putting in a decent amount of miles on the car similar to how much I put in my Focus ST.
Not sure what type of answer you’re looking for. You’ll be putting around 12k miles on the car in a year. As long as you’re okay with the maintenance cost and upkeep for the car it should be fine. It depends on your plans for the car, if you want to resell it at some point, and your budget.
Your 911 will easily eat up 80 miles in complete comfort. You can even add a zero if you really want.
But then that does beg the question, would you rather spend that 80 miles on curvy roads or chasing apexes? If so, maybe use something else for your boring daily drives and make up for lost time later :)
With that said, I completely understand if you just want to inject some adrenaline in your daily commute. In that case, your car will handle that perfectly, as if it was built specifically for that purpose.
I drive my GTS nearly 30 miles every day. It is a phenomenal daily driver. Aggressive and fun when you want it to be and super passive and soft when you want it to be. One of the most versatile and fun cars I have ever owned.
for me the question is this:
stop and go traffic? not great.
mostly cruising? definitely.
I did a 74 mile (round trip) commute 3-4 days a week in my 991.1 for about a year. No complaints at all. Before we moved, my round trip was 32 miles and I did that for years, even in snow a couple times. Fantastic car.
I daily a 991.2 C2 and put about 2,000 miles a month on it between commute and pleasure.
These cars are built to be driven. I have no complaints and there’s not another daily I would prefer.
Very feasible. Enjoy it.
Awesome! Do it!! I daily my Macan, but the Cayman (manual) is also a pleasure to commute in. I am in the Bay Area as well. If you can commute the 280 instead of the 101, it will be that much more pleasurable. Maybe an occasional drive home on an alternate route that involves PCH or Skyline (and a burger at Alice’s) would be a blast!
I do end up taking the 280 more just because it is a shorter drive some days! I think the Bay Area comments are giving me a lot of confidence in the car. Now to finalize on the deal haha
My 991.1 C2S is my only car, and it’s an absolute sublime daily driver. I can sit in rush hour traffic in it and not be bothered one bit.
I bought my 991.2 in August with 35k km. I have 51 on it right now. It’s perfectly doable
Hate seeing people afraid to put miles on these cars. OP, drive the piss out of the damn thing.
90k km on 997 GT2 💪
While I have a Macan too, I split my daily drives roughly equally between it and my 991.1 and it’s fantastic. The 991 is very comfy and drives well for a dd even at 94k miles. 🙂
It will handle the commute better than a bmw/audi/Mercedes reliability wise, you’ll just be replacing tires more frequently. Porsche makes the best cars in the world.
80-mile commute? My commiserations, OP! Find another job close by? Lol.
I chose to live in the city haha and don’t mind the commute if it’s only 2 days for that week.
My wife daily’s our 991.1 GTS Cab PDK when weather permits. She loves it. Super comfortable and zero issues thus far at 30k miles. Her favorite feature is what she calls the “fuck you button” aka Sport Plus. We have a few fun Pcar options for weekend getaways and short roadtrips and we almost always find ourselves taking the 991 for comfort and available storage space.
If you’re going to keep it long term don’t stress about the mileage, just be sure to maintain it well and get the Fidelity coverage .
Plus NA just sounds better. Good luck
My 718 does good, I drive 7 miles every day.
