4Runner and Tacoma are both known to be reliable but they are made in different countries and Tacoma has a smaller displacement engine.
From the catalytic converter, engine, transmission, to the power-train control module, which vehicles are you less likely to have it end up at the shop for random breakdown, check engine lights, and leaking fluid?

Great year for 4Runner. 4.0 speaks volumes imo. Was sad when they discontinued out of the Tacoma. Last chance is here. I would definitely love a 4Runner in this year.
The 4Runners have better fit and finish, but the overall reliability of the two will be the same.
Yes, than the current gen tacoma before this new one comes out. It’s been a solid platform for over 10 years.
