Good. Normalize regular cars as being EVs. Stop making them look like spaceships.
None of VW’s EVs look unorthodox. Other than the vaguely modern front-lights, they’re conspicuously normal-looking.
The problem, as others have pointed out, was that the interiors of the ID range all feel cheap, and VW’s in-house software and interface team really dropped the ball.
What about the IDK? 😬
Many manufacturers have the IDK (when it will be avaliable).
If it looks like that, with actual windows instead of gun-turret slits, I’ll scoop one up immediately. I hate these squashed windows on too many modern cars.
That one in the picture is just the current Golf Mk8.
Given that we’re 5 years out that’s to be expected. Let’s hope they come up with an actual design, and not something blah like the ID4.
I hope they can lower the cars by then, so that there’s no need for en entire floor of batteries. With higher density, it should be possible. Also, a lower saves a couple of prevent of range. Maybe 5% for 10 cm lower?
I think that’s kinda dumb. As far as I could tell the ID names were getting established nicely. But what do I know? Guess they did some market research and took the results from 2022 to plan for 2028…
ID sales across the board/worldwide are tanking currently

Volkswagen to reduce headcount at ‘no longer competitive’ VW brand
VW plans a $10.9 billion savings program to boost efficiency in the transition to electric cars.
You really think someone would do that? Just go on the internet and tell lies?
That’s the entire point. You don’t put your reputable brand name on a questionable new product, that will likely have tons of flaws, that needs sorting out.
I’ve literally never seen an ID3 in my life.
As a 2019 e-golf owner, all I want is an E-Golf R with AWD and a bit better battery and power. I love my e-golf.
I would probably love it too if I wasn’t stuck between all of these 1-passenger behemoth 4x4 pickup trucks.
Same!
Most of the big brands should just offer a BEV version of all their vehicles, and the customer can choose if they want it like it’s an option.
2028…
that’s a long long fucking way off for vw to correct a mistake.
Golf cart
ID terminology wasn’t great
Was it Mazda or BMW that had some numbers out of order and the smallest car was in the lower middle of numbers?
Numbers are for the rich to keep track of. “OH you only have the 3??”
Mazda?
Thank goodness they’re seeing sense. We have the golf, we have the polo… Use them ! Why the need for new special EVs
I don’t thin this a new idea- There was always the expectation they’d eventually fold the id. electric line into the traditional models.
They needed some scheme to run parallel model lines, because VW went for a dedicated BEV platform after the e-Golf and e-up. That difference go away sooner than later.
I believe VW is the only mass-brand that has - or will soon have- a “thoroughbred BEV” equivalent to their entire ICE lineup.
Because EV on the platform meant for ICE isn’t optimal. It’s ok that they are “special” a.k.a. based on the platform meant for electric power, they should just stop screwing with the different names because all they do with that is confuse customers.
Holy Planned Obscelecence Batman!
Is report the new word for “rumor”? I don’t doubt VW is making a new eGolf though, why wouldn’t they? The original eGolf is a pretty awesome car :)
Well, this “article” is quoting a report that states that a bunch of journalists heard a bunch of wishy-washy rumors from people who probably won’t be there to make that decision once it actually becomes relevant to think about in a couple of years, then asked the CEO in an interview to comment and he denied everything. Clearly this is definitely happening. 100%
