My first post here about having starter issues:

https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicAdvice/s/aSt9kKpxtZ

I took out the starter and bench tested it. It all seems fine…. Wish I had tried another way first. It was a pain in the ass getting this starter out.

Now putting it back in I realized I snapped off this little curved rubber spout that comes out. Should I try to epoxy it back on or is it alright continuing without it? What even is this little thing? I’m guessing maybe it’s a vent to blow out little metal shards that might come off while activating.

Any advice thanks!

You can’t simulate load on the bench, unless you shove a piece of wood into the gear…

Even with my volume all the way up I can’t hear it well at all, but multiple/rapid clicking is more of a symptom of low battery power / bad connection.

However, now that the starter is out, you absolutely should replace it, because it’s OEM regardless. Also, inspect the B+ cable and key+ wire at the starter, and replace any gaskets/bolts as per procedures.
