Welcome, visible menders new and old, to /c/visible_mending on lemmy.srv.eco!

The visible mending community on Reddit is one I’ve enjoyed being part of for a while now, so I’m really happy to see a lot of new members coming over here, even if it is in unfortunate circumstances.

I’m hoping to foster a similar community spirit here, which I’m sure will be easy with the support of the lovely people of r/visiblemending. In terms of rules, please refer to the Site-wide Rules and any that may appear in the sidebar of /c/visible_mending. Apart from that, keep doing what you’re doing :)

I’ve reached out to the moderators of r/visiblemending to see if any of them want to try Lemmy out here. They’ll be instated here if they want to be. Besides that, if we find we need more mods here, I’ll open up applications.

If you’re new to Lemmy entirely, I’ll try to give you a brief introduction here. This Lemmy server is one of many in the “Lemmy-verse”. Thanks to Lemmy’s federation feature, people from different servers are free to interact with each other, similar to how, for example, someone using an @gmail.com email address can contact someone using an @yahoo.com email address - Gmail and Yahoo are separate providers, but they both use email.

Well, the same goes here! lemmy.srv.eco users can communicate with other servers (such as https://beehaw.org/ and https://lemmy.world/) without ever having to leave this server. Your @lemmy.srv.eco account will work on any other server we’re federated with. For example, here’s the link to /c/sports on Beehaw: https://lemmy.srv.eco/c/sports@beehaw.org. You can subscribe, post, upvote, comment, and interact in any other way just like you can with any community here. And their users can do the same from Beehaw, interacting with us on this server!

If any of that doesn’t make sense, or if you have any other questions, then please ask below in the comments. And don’t forget to introduce yourself with a post in /c/introductions, if you haven’t already.

I hope that I can succeed in providing a strong and suitable alternative for migrating Reddit users, and help to foster communities new and old.

Thanks, and once again welcome
~ JM
