For me it was a female coworker complimenting my Q50 Redsport. Interned at a 3 letter fed agency last summer and one of the other interns who I became friendly with was a mid 20’s former sorority girl - someone you’d never expect to be a car enthusiast. Gave her a ride after work one day since her car was in the shop and immediately after walking up to my car in the garage, started complimenting it. Talked about the VR30TT engine and asked me if the turbos were giving me any trouble, then talked a little shit about how it’s still slower than her car. I asked her what she drove and she had an M2 lol

I have a '22 Kona N-Line, so not a super fast car by any means, with an exhaust, intake, and some boost control bits. On my way to Walmart, which is on this long, straight road, perfect for a little rolling race, and a little white Mini S pulls up alongside me with a young guy in the driver’s seat. I can tell he’s also got an exhaust, he downshifts and I know what’s about to happen. We’re going probably 45, I downshift into 3rd, he does the countdown, and I beat him pretty handily. He ends up also going into Walmart, and I park, and as I’m getting out of the car, this guy must’ve been looking for me and pulls into the spot next to me. Tells me he didn’t think the non-N Konas could go like that, I tell him that I didn’t either and I’m just as surprised as he is (I’ve never really opened it up like that before). He tells me he heard my exhaust, which prompted the race, and asked what else I’ve done to it, I tell him, and we end up sitting in the Walmart parking lot talking about future mods, gripes with our cars, etc. It made me feel kinda good, because this kinda thing never happened to me before, and I’ve never gotten a compliment on my little econobox Kona.

I passed by some middle schooler riding his bicycle and the next thing I hear is the boy scream “IT’S A MIATA!”

    That just made my day.

Unexpected insult? I had my 996 Turbo lined up for an event and a father & son were wandering around checking out the cars. The ~8 year old son looked at mine and said “That car looks slow”. oof.

Okay, fair enough, the four cars to my right were a GT-R, GT2RS, McLaren 720S, and a Dodge Viper. The three cars to my left were all GT3RS. so yea, I suppose it was the slow one in that row.

I was walking to my car when suddenly i hear “Nice muscle car!”

I drive a 2022 chrysler 300 with a V6. I relayed this to a coworker after clocking out and seeing my white on black 300 in the parking garage. He did not care and still complimented it. We got to talking in the parking garage for about an hour talking about old school muscle cars and how he had one back in the 80’s. Also saddened the V8 is getting replaced. All in all a wholesome and informative experience!

Any compliment I receive is unexpected, because I literally drive a rental car.

I mean, it’s a Mustang convertible, so one of the nicer rental cars, alright, but still, it isn’t special, and I know it. But I still love the compliments it receives anyway. :-)

Idk if this counts as an unexpected compliment or whatever but one of the ones I liked the most was this woman saying it looks like the batmobile, which… I mean I really loved hearing since I love batman. I was driving my black C4 vette so yeah I can totally understand with that long ass hood lol

Ive actually gotten a ton of compliments from women about the car, which makes me reading all the comments of people saying “women dont care about cars” to be kinda… not what im experiencing personally. But if I were to believe the internet nobody likes the C4 either but… again, that’s not my experience with it lol.
