PSA, check pricing before charging. I guess I won’t make that mistake again… I mistakenly picked the first DC Fast charger near me on this road trip. Has this happened to anyone else before?

I was at a hotel near Zion NP recently. ChargePoint level 2 there was .79c/kwh.

I decided to supercharge an extra ten min to avoid overpaying for convenience. Always check the pricing (unless it’s the only option)

Where is the charger? Were you also paying for parking at the same time? $3 per kW is crazy, like paying $35-$40 a gallon for gas.

The price for the chargers on the Chargepoint network is set by the owner of the charger and not ChargePoint. It is unfortunate, but like many things, you have to check the price before you buy.

Might want to leave a negative review on Google for BMW of Newport. Only way they’ll think about changing the price / business model.

When im traveling I honestly don’t pay attention to the cost per kWh , but after seeing this post I will. After leaving that dealership a not so stellar review lol

But to be fair, that might be an F-You price to dissuade the unwashed masses from using a BMW charger. Do they charge their own customers?

My Nissan Leaf dealer does something similar (but not as expensive.) They have a paid charger but if you want to charge your Nissan you can just ask any salesperson and they carry an RFID card that will start the charger for free.

Yep, in Buena Vista, Colorado. Didn’t look closely enough at the rate structure. Ended up stopping the charge after only spending $30 or so. Really annoying.

Has this happened to anyone else before?

every gas station at the top of the mountain.

every gas station within 50 miles of the CA border can charge CA gas prices.

    $93.20 36 min 31.0676 kWh added

right next to the “no services next 25kWh” sign?

    PSA, check pricing before charging

they get away with it because they can.

Supply and demand, ladies and gentlemen. At some point it’s gonna cost 40 or $50 to charge up and the price of gas will drop.

    There is no free lunch.

I’ve been ripped off by Chargpoint before, but not that bad. Now I double check the pricing in the app before choosing a location. Sometimes, like in my case, it was the only option. My experience was in Colorado where it seemed like every chargpoint was a different pricing grift.

Many dealers were forced to install charging stations and don’t really want to share their chargers, so they just jack up the prices. Be very cautious at dealers.

I dropped $20 for a forgotten amount of kWh, but would have been about $5 if I drove to the other side of the parking lot, if I had bothered to check prices first.

I’ve been taken to the cleaners at gas stations (never more than 2x the average cost in the greater area), but this is many levels beyond that. Absolutely predatory or a happy, but lucrative error (for the station owner).
