Well, the rog ally literally destroys sd cards due to poor design, so I’d say deck for a device with no major defects

This subreddit is dedicated to Steam, so naturally there are going to be a lot of biased opinions towards the Steam Deck. I would recommend you to look for comments with the ones pointing out the pros and cons of both devices and decide from those.

From what I gathered the Rog Ally is mostly a handheld Windows machine with the fixings of Asus software and what else, however there’s a design flaw with the SD card reader that can get contentious reactions in their Reddit if you bring it up.

Namely, depending on your luck in life, inevitably your SD card reader will either cease operation period and or fry your MicroSD card in the process.

Most people recommend just upgrading the SSD and not bothering with the Micro SD, but at that price point, everything should work out of the box until its natural conclusion (IMO.)

From what it sounds, looks like you’re already set on the SD.

ive had both … no track pad so it’s pretty wonky using analog as a cursor and the sd card ended up corrupting a 1TB sd card. Not saying steam deck is perfect but it sure ain’t eva bricked my damn sd or have a failed unusable sd drive.

Unless you just like collecting handhelds so you have all the things, it’s nonsensical to have both. The Steam Deck is the better portable, so you’d be more apt to use that one in on the go situations, but for docked, you’d do far better with a mini PC like from Miniforums where you’d get far and away better performance than the Ally would ever get for the same price. The Ally makes sense as a single portable/docked device, but then you don’t need the Steam Deck.
