Hi all,

Currently I have a bungalow that is approximately 1300sqft. Originally my isp installed the modem in the basement by the electrical panel but they are coming out to move it to the main floor. I unfortunately have to get a Arris XB7 unit from the ISP and will be turning on bridge mode. I have 1gbps download and 100mbps upload (don’t need upload for anything, no one streams or does uploading in my household)

I will have 3 gaming consoles, 1 pc, 4 laptops, 4 cell phones, a security system with 5 cameras, a voip phone system and will be adding another laptop, phone and console in the future.

Currently I have a Asus RT-AX86U and it seems to run fine but I want to build a system where I have more control and reliability. The Asus router is running on default settings with QOS off as I was told I don’t need to use QOS with the speeds I have and small amount of devices.

I have a budget of $1000.

Any recommendations or should I stick with the router I have and change around the settings?

Basement or utility room seems like the perfect place for the modem. I’d run Ethernet up from the basement into the living space.

I’d spend about $200 for a switch and AP and wired router. Spend the balance on proper Ethernet wiring.
