    Drogba - Toney

Diego Costa - Pick any big aggressive striker who makes up for a lack of technical ability with tenacity

    Anelka - Martial

    Thierry - Isak

    Robben - Saka

    Lampard - Ramsey

    Drogba: Guirassy

    Diego Costa: Lautaro Martinez

    Anelka: Benzema

    Robben: Rafael Leao

    Henry: Mbappe

Lampard: Van de Beek or Mount but much better - I don’t think he plays like Lampard at all

Side note, I’m a Liverpool fan and I’m surprised people are suggesting Robben was nowhere near Salah’s level.

At Robben’s peak, I would say he was equally influential - he just was injured ALL the time. Never had a full season whereas Salah is never injured. I don’t think it’s disrespectful to compare them at all.

I really struggle to think of better wingers of that generation.

That’s a really good shout. To be honest, I found it very hard to think about matches for all of these players.

Especially Diego Costa and Drogba. They really don’t make them like them anymore.

I agree. Lampard and vd Beek are very similar stylistically, although Lampard was a few levels better.

And Robben was world class, just like Salah. You could argue that Salah has had a better career because he isn’t injured as much, but Salah didn’t perform at the level Robben had from the same age.

Robben succeeded at chelsea, at approximately the age Salah was sent away. I think Robben was at the top for way longer then Salah. That is no slight to Salah as he is amazing but anyone who says Robben is nowhere near Salah is taking the piss.

Yes I remember when Robben came. Immediately he looked a completely different class to the wingers we had in the league.

Tore the league up… then got a bad injury.

Great player to watch as well.

We would be shoehorning really. None of these players have modern day counterparts. It really would be forcing it.

Antony can shoot to the far post as well, but only if he has no opponents to beat. I don’t watch too many Man U games, but I don’t remember him going past his opponents at all. I wonder what his dribble attempt/success rate is.

Sorry to be rude but I think all of these are absolutely shocking. Alike in position alone.

This is forcing it but here’s what I think:

    Didier Drogba - Osimhen

    Diego Costa - Haaland

    Nicolas Anelka - Lukaku

    Arjen Robben - Son

    Thierry Henry - Kane

    Frank Lampard - Bellingham

    Robben: Coutinho.

Cut inside and shot into top corner. You can’t find a more similar example in terms of world class, one dimensional player with this trait.
