How egotistic do you have to be to think that your opinion is warranted with regards to women’s appearance? Good for you if you think you don’t like lashes. No one asked, and I’d be willing to bet you’d see a woman with full face on including lashes or mascara and think she looks great. 🙄

The men in this thread calling women repulsive for wearing lashes are unbelievable. Imagine saying something so horrible to someone about an aspect of their appearance you personally think you don’t like. And then you wonder why no one wants to date you. So fucking sad that the endless male commentary on women’s bodies can make it to c/all and see so much support here.

As a dude, I want women to use this meme format for guys.

Something like, “No woman cares about your shuriken collection”. (Wow writing it out loud, I attacked myself…)

The fact this post is even still up and upvoted without thought is depressing, that applies even if it wasn’t specifically about women or anything else.

Not only that, OP’s post history is quite problematic.

The bumper sticker slogan isn’t really wrong, i think most of us are ignorant to what we do/don’t like in this regard. I would have never said that before a month ago tbh because my wife never got them, and then when she did, I said why waste the money you dont need them. Then found myself staring at her more. I still prob wouldnt say it. As the women have shown in here we can be pretty oblivious. And I think im fairly in tune with small details making a big difference.

There’s a fraction of a fraction of a percent of Lemmy users in this thread, it’s probably not a good yardstick to measure the entire userbase by.

I think a pretty big misunderstanding is that is seems that women dress up because it’s fun. Meanwhile the only time a man puts any thought into their outfit is specifically to impress others. It’s so engrained that unless explained it never occurs to them that someone might just dress to look good to themselves. I’d imagine in the country side this division is even moreso engrained because we don’t even think about the quality of what we are wearing. What ever we wear will get covered in motor oil. It will be torn to shreds by working outside. Because of that I’m accustomed to nice outfits and makeup to be basically flirting. We think makeup and dresses are flirting on women because suits manicured facial hair and hair styles is one of the way men flirt.

Not taking care of your hygiene is not comparable to wearing makeup 🙄 if I went on a date with someone who was unkempt and unhygienic I would assume they’re struggling to care for themselves or doesn’t care. Either way, I’d leave and if they asked I’d be honest and tell them why.

Every single human being is held to the standards of hygiene. Being unhygienic is bad for your health and can spread disease. Men are not held to the same standards of hygiene that women are. Men are not held to the same standards of appearance that women are. Men are not punished for failing to meet those standards in the same way that women are.

Do you think women don’t get judged for being unhygienic? I run into men in public all the time who I can smell from 30 yards away and who are covered in dirt or oil or God knows what. I very rarely run into women who are comparably unkempt. Women face severe social consequences for being even slightly unkempt. Even if they’re trades workers.

And none of this is even relevant to the topic which is about makeup.

It can spread disease in some cases, but generally most people won’t get significantly more diseases if they live a normal life except for not showing for a few months. This has nothing to do with the gender of the person, it could be a woman too. Do you judge anyone for not showering? If so why do you care? You’re almost definitely not going to catch a disease from them unless your in intimate contact with them. Their body their choice.

The way you talk about the bodies of women who have nothing to do with you is absolutely disgusting. How you can call women literally “deformed demi-humans” and somehow think your words are justified is beyond me. Your behavior and attitude is misogynistic and you are totally repulsive.

Being in favor of a group doesn’t mean “praise them no matter how stupid a thing an individual or subgroup does”.

Simple example hypothetical: if you saw a woman using literal shit as makeup, would you not think she’s gross? Just so you know, answering ‘no’ means you have a severe neural problem.

That’s not what we’re talking about here. Your hypothetical woman isn’t real. We are talking about real women who actually exist and the way you are exerting an authority over their bodies and appearances. Being a feminist is not “being in favor of a group” its respecting women and believing they should be equals in society. It’s believing in the movement for women’s rights and fighting for those rights. It’s pushing back against misogyny and misogynistic discrimination wherever it appears in society.

You calling women deformed, calling them gross, acting as though you have the right to comment on their bodies - that’s misogyny. You’re a misogynist. The comments you’re making are not causally disconnected from the rest of the world. Your comments are part of the long-standing toxic social tradition of demonizing women, denigrating women’s appearances, and using language to try and control women’s bodies. I’m not playing this game with you any longer. Crawl back to whatever hole you inhabit and either educate yourself or leave women the fuck alone.

Are you daft? Do you not have eyes? Or maybe you’re an alien, possibly?

Vertebrates have phenotypical and behavioral characteristics, “judging”, i.e. classifying as desired and undesired, is a primordial part of our branch of life.
