I was dead set on getting the LE model because I loved the red-orange accents. But I was annoyed by how little press coverage there was on it. I wanted to see what the unit looked like outside of a photo studio setting with perfect lighting. Thankfully Gizmodo pulled through before I was able to place my order, because man did my impression of it change completely…

I think the outer shell is opaque enough not to look too cheap, like a MadCatz controller, but it’s just not doing it for me personally. I’m curious to see if dust is going to show easily underneath over time. This shot also leaves me with the impression that some of the power/charge indicator light might bleed through the top edge while playing games in a dark room. Hopefully that’s not the case because that would be distracting as hell.

I still like the red-orange accents though. It only makes sense to have more parts of the device match the color used for the power button. But it also dawned on me that I wouldn’t be able to find matching color parts if any future repairs are needed (including the orange screws). I like knowing whatever spare parts I buy on iFixIt will match the exact unit I have. I guess that’s the downside with any limited edition model of anything really.

It’s doing the opposite for me. I think I’m liking it even more after seeing some closer imagery. I’ll give it to you on the LED, though. I don’t really play where it would be dark enough to matter, but that may well trigger people who do like play in bed with the lights off.

I’ll just also say, damn, Hi-Fi Rush looks good in that one shot. That might be my first play on the new Deck.
