All in the title. In discussion with a few friends, I mentioned that I was rooting for Liverpool in '05 in the CL final against AC Milan, and people were surprised… it seems this is not as common as I thought.

So, what’s your attidute towards your clubs’ local rivals when they are in continental competitions?

I never understood the reasoning that you should want a club to do well because they’re English. Like mate that’s the whole reason i want them to fail

Supporting the English teams in Europe is an old fashioned idea. I think people used to do do that cos English teams were all full of English players. Now a days we all want our prem rivals to lose in Europe (mainly cos we don’t want to have to play each other). Although saying that I was routing for West Ham in their final last year

It might sound a bit plastic but I support spurs whenever they’re not playing us. One because I know they aren’t winning the league defeating us. Second I can’t help but empathize with them. I am an Indian and I support a similar team to Spurs in the IPL(Indian Premier League) , Royal Challengers Banglore (RCB). They have never won IPL despite being one of the best sides , having arguably the greatest player of this era(Virat Kohli) along with the other two of the best T20 batters of all time, also having the third largest fanbase of any team. So yeah I always support spurs when they’re not playing City.

Hell no, it was absolute hell when city, liverpool and chelsea won their respective champions league titles. I would want teams like west ham and aston villa to do well in europe tho

It depends on the team. If it is an underdog like a West Ham, then I’ll be behind them.

If it is someone like Man Utd or Liverpool, probably not.

That said, the Istanbul final, I was fully behind AC, but by the time it was 3-3, I was fully behind Liverpool for the way they came back. I was over the moon when they won on pens. I remember walking into a Walkabout afterwards and Karl Kennedy from Neighbours was playing a set (wtf?!). He opened with YNWA and the place went mental. It sounds like I’m making that up, but it really did happen, I think.

No, fuck that. I enjoy seeing the other “big six” English clubs lose in Europe. The only time I might root for one is Brighton now or Leicester when they were in Europe as they’re not a direct rival and I don’t mind their clubs.

    Absolutely not.

Now if some random team that I don’t particularly dislike (Crystal Palace?) were to make a run in one of the European competitions? Sure, why not - especially if they are playing against a club I don’t like from another country.

As a United fan. Absolutely not for city, liverpool & arsenal but the rest I genuinely don’t mind. Rather English teams win the champions league rather than some random ass team. I get a lot of people are different mind you.
