• The way idiots abuse antibiotics sure is troubling, but there’s a bit of hope. As it turns out, the more resistent bacteria become to antibiotics, the less resistance they have th phages.

    Bacteriophages are viruses that will infect and kill specific strains of bacteria. The Soviets actually put a lot of effort into building a phage bank. The downside is that you need to match the phage to the specific bacteria you’re trying to fight, but this also means they’re less devastating to your gut biome.

    When every bacteria is resistant to most antibiotics, we’ll still have a way to cure the most common ones. It’ll be more expensive though, and you can bet we’ll end up with a whole bunch of people dying of cuts and scraps again, but it won’t be the end of modern medicine.
