Going for a steam deck OLED tomorrow and one of the big selling points for me is the remote play feature. For those that have used it what’s your experience with it. How is the performance and is there any noticeable latency?

Obviously it’s somewhat dependent on your network. I have a WiFi 6 router but my PC is connected via WiFi instead of Ethernet so curious how that will impact things.

Thanks!

Use the Sunshine and Moonlight combo if you want the lowest latency and best image quality. It’s a hair more work than remote play but it’s well worth it IMO.

PC connected via wifi is going to lead to larger latency. No way around that unfortunately.

I’ll second Moonlight over Steam Link. Picture quality and latency is loads better for me on a 5ghz network. I link to my computer that is also connected wirelessly and have very few connection issues all over the house. Obviously an Ethernet connection is preferable but it’s not a dealbreaker for me.

I had an unrelated issue where my deck wouldn’t connect to 5ghz WiFi at all, but was able to resolve by tinkering with the channel settings in my router menu.

I found SRP to be not as good as sunshine + moonlight in terms of frame lag. But it’s gotten better with the recent update, so eventually maybe it’ll get good enough that I don’t need to use moonlight at all and can just go full SRP.
