    VW because of dieselgate got a 2 billion dollar penalty and built an EV public charge infrastructure but of course it was malicious compliance. Until they are as profitable as gas stations its gonna be tough.

      Trouble is, gas stations aren’t actually profitable. It’s about a 5 cent per gallon markup, and the average station sells 4000 gallons per day. Granted, that’s $73000 per year, but factor in the cost to maintain the site, and it’s a loss leader. In reality, gas stations make their money on the convenience or grocery stores that are attached to them.

      Do you want to know the crazy part? The 4x markup on the cost of electricity and the simple nature of a DC fast charger when compared to a gas pump means that they already are more profitable… But since gas pumps are a loss leader, that’s not saying much.

        In CA, CostCo can sell gas almost a dollar less than the competition. I doubt they are selling at a loss, so I doubt the competition only makes 5c a gallon
