Hi. I’m looking for advice while planning my first Homelab. In this image, I’m sketching out where everything might go. Do you have any recommendations or suggestions?

Notes:

  1. The enclosure is a 18U from Tecmojo which I added 4 inch casters to the bottom.
  2. The ?'s are for a potential future NAS that I don’t have today.
  3. The blank on row 3 is for a potential future second patch panel but I really don’t think it will be necessary.
  4. The blank below the 2U cable Organizer is for items on the shelf that may exceed 1U. But I’d like to get a rack mounted more powerful switch down the line and could separate them out as needed.
  5. The UPS is a 5-6U cyberpower tower and the modem/router from my ISP is about the same size in height

    1. I’d mount the switch between patch panels. Or at least next to the one you have.
    2. Do you really need a cable organizer?
    3. I’d rear mount the PDU

Very interesting suggestions. Thank you. For #2, no, and I could remove it to save space. Like everything else, I watched a YouTube video that explained some benefits and it was sub $20. But no, it isn’t a must.

For #3, I want to share one caveat with you but I am tempted to do exactly what you say.

I bought this unit with individual switches to control each outlet. This is for reasons of saving electricity, controlling which devices are active at certain periods, etc. Would that knowledge alter your suggestion?
