It seems to me every single time a new sedan or hatch is released, the first comment is always “It’s ugly”. No reasoning, or pointing out design flaws it’s just ugly.
But every suv that comes out is “handsome” or “actually pretty good looking”. You can see this today with the new Camry and Crown SUV even though they’re essentially the same design.
Did I slip and fall into opposite world? I thought this sub obsesses over small cars yet the hive mind seems to hate them.
I like the “boring” design of the camry. Not exagerated/flashy etc, just nice and simple. But some cars are just ugly, no matter suv or sedan.
The massive grille that takes up most of the Camry’s front end seems pretty exaggerated but maybe that’s just me
Just a bit yeah but i like it more from the back.
But some cars are just ugly, no matter suv or sedan.
Agree, like everything Nissan has made until 2018 or so.
The new Altima and Sentra look okay though. Didn’t say they’re good cars (I never had a Nissan), but they look good.
Where? Source the threads
They’re hard to find with this search function but here’s a couple.

Out of these only the Mini and Suzuki Swift are small cars and the commenters’ problem seems to be that previous generations of the same car looked better.
So it’s not that the sub hates small car designs, but that these two facelifts in particular were not done well.Yeah I messed up the title. It should’ve just been cars in general.
- you’re grossly misinformed, we hate SUVs
- This is Reddit (especially this subreddit) we hate almost every new car design.
Actually, I think we hate most cars in general lol.
Even our own at times. It’s natural.
Hatches in particular are a dime a dozen and many if not most don’t offer much of a driving experience.
This sub hates pretty much all new cars, especially SUVs
*This sub hates pretty much all cars, especially SUVs
Unless its name contains the letters: CX
The Camry is not a small car
Most of this sub just hates change
Sleek and sexy is the way, hatches and smart cars usually arent…
The only consistency I’ve noticed is that most of this sub owns cars under five years old that cost over a hundred grand. This is really r/carsforSTEMgrads
Nah, those people are just the most vocal. The rest of us that are driving shitboxes hardly post about it.
Drop the S and the M from that.
I can only think of two small car designs that got ripped:
- The Mercedes EQ jellybeans, and
- The Golf Mk8, but that was mostly for its interior for which it deserved all the thrashing
U must be new here. Rule of thumb: if u don’t own one it’s ugly
Because the audience is overwhelmingly American.
I like pretty much all cars, except the pt cruiser, fuck that car
You’re not wrong OP, but this sub won’t admit the change, despite there having been a complete reversal. This sub now has several proliferative users that defend SUVs and trucks. Threads are constantly filled with chains of comments defending SUVs and that buying anything else is stupid. This sub has had a massive flip in the last 5 years.
