Today I pulled the trigger on a M3 Comp xDrive. Dealer requested a $5k deposit, I was able to talk them down to $2500. That feels like a win, as some other dealers I called wanted a 10% deposit. Once I have an official production status, I’ll update.

This is my 2nd BMW, I’m currently driving a 2023 X5 and that really gave me the BMW bug and sent me down the “rabid” hole 😂🤣😂.

They are saying this should hit production in December or January and be in around April. They actually delivered my X5 a few weeks early, on my first order, fingers crossed they are at least on time or early!

Let me know if you have any questions about specs or ordering process.

On such a beast I feel like they should just RPM lock it until the requisite miles are met. BMW doesn’t even give you the option of taking break ins seriously on their S1000RR. That bike is just locked to 8k RPMs until 600 miles when you take it for 1st service and they unlock it…Mandatory break in.

The break in period is mainly to seat the piston rings to your cylinder walls properly. In the engine the piston rings rub against your cylinder walls constantly, the tolerances are very tight.

Improper break in can mean the rings wear down too much and that tolerance widens up meaning that gasses can escape around the side of the cylinder and into the crankcase. Also on the flip side, oil can make its way into the combustion chamber easier causing excessive oil consumption.

My BMW tech told me that it can have long lasting effects on the whole drivetrain. All the brand new elements of the car need to adapt themselves to each other. In this period you have a lot of inital friction in the engine and between it’s parts, that’s why you have to do an diff oil change and an oil change right after the period so all the small metal bits that emerged in the breaking in period get removed from the oil system. If you do this too fast (high rpm, high speed) it can result in grooves in the cylinder walls which will have less power and maybe less lubrication than you want as a result. I hope I remembered correctly. All in all it’s a crucial period if you want to have a healthy engine for the rest of your ownership.

Are they really?…honest question…I love the way they look with the little blue accents and when I ordered car I felt they were a must have but after using them…functional I honestly don’t see much difference between them and standard LED or even the old xenons. For 1K I feel they are a meh option but that’s just my 2 cents.

        little blue accents

FYI, the US-spec have no active blue elements because the law here prohibits any blue illumination. The only blue you will get with laserlights in the USA is paint.

In europe parts of the housing actually glow a faint blue.

Check out videos of lasers vs without lasers, there’s not much difference

I think someone else said you only really want them for resale value and if you like the look of them (purely cosmetic)

But I guess if you can afford a new M3 , getting lasers shouldn’t hurt the wallet

you are probably right, there is a lot of groupthink happening with options. same with the carbon buckets. they just hear it from everyone in their circle and then rehash it.

I have driven without them and driven with and in real world I notice the difference. Cosmetically, I’d still always get them for the look

This may be just the way the car is displayed in the configurator but it looks like you didn’t get the laser lights? If not, I’d highly recommend it for the extra $1,000. The laser lights are mainly a gimmick in the US but the option comes with different looking daytime running lights which look a lot better imo.

Always always always get the laser lights! I didn’t one time and it bothered me every fing time i looked at the car. Also the night driving experience is a lot better imo. Also they look way better than the standard lights imo.

I was able to call and add the laser lights today, since it’s not in production yet. Thank you all for the tip!

Deposit is non refundable… but in the unforeseen chance that I get laid off or something wild happens and they played hard ball…I paid deposit via my Amex and I’d certainly attempt to charge back the deposit. Legally they would win, but I’m not above trying. Would just be one more hoop for them to jump through. But that is not the plan or a likely scenario. The new note won’t be much more than my current one due to how much I put down on the x5 and I’ve been paying double each month…so it would take something catastrophic for me to back out.

Options? Some thoughts from my order experience:

Laser lights - don’t really see a “laser difference” in mine, but the DRL is “more full” with the laser lights.

Auto Cruise only comes with the Driving Assistance Professional Package package.

I kind of wish I got the parking package because the top down view would help with keep the rims scuff free.

Carbon fiber interior trim - gives you the carbon fiber looking paddles. Looks better than the basic ones on the other trim.

Carbon fiber package: Expensive but it removes the mesh front side sills.

executive package - HUD is a must. The sport hud throws a tac and your gear on the windshield. Awesome. I wouldn’t order without this personally.

I’ve bought from same dealer before, they know I have excellent credit and the means to purchase. Plus I just asked if they could do 2.5 instead of 5.

      3 reasons, in order:

      1. 4k just didn’t seem like a big jump at this price point. I can still make it rwd, if I’m waiting more movement / feels.
      2. Safety / peace of mind in wet / winter weather.
      3. Resale; xdrives appear to hold their value better.

Fair enough and yeah I always noticed the xdrive models go for more than anything
