Hey there! I am super uninformed when it comes to laptops so I’m hoping y’all can help me. I have an idea of what I might need so I’m going to lay that out below:
Budget: preferably under $1000, ideally in the $700-800 range
OS: preferably windows if you have a strong ass argument for Mac I’m open to it. From my research I am leaning towards Lenovo because they seem like a good medium between build quality and affordability. I use google docs and chrome for work and school so word isn’t a deal breaker at all.
CPU/AMD: I am thinking either i7 or AMD Ryzen 7
RAM: 16 gb ideally
Screen size: the bigger the better but ideally not something super heavy. I also don’t like the sounds of overheating but I know that can be an issue with smaller laptops…
My reasoning for above specs is that I will not be doing any heavy gaming, I think I am going to get a steam deck and use that for gaming. Graphics are not a huge concern. My main use will be research, homework, music streaming, and tv streaming. I need a system that can handle lots of tabs open (like 20 at least) and I would like something that will not be laggy.
I’m attaching a customized thinkpad that from what I know seems to fit my needs but I’m really just hoping for a second opinion before I buy. Thank you!!
I think it looks good. I know that used business laptop buyers think the new or old t14 or 16 is really good.
I bought an Ideapad 5 almost 11 months ago at Best Buy USA. It uses the Ryzen 7 5700u. This 7730 is an updated version with a small 5% speed boost. The cpu is excellent. I don’t do anything crazy. I mostly do Adobe Acrobat Pro. Office 365, Zoom or Web ex by Cisco, stream movies or live sports from espn+. The cpu is great with good ram. I can open 500 page pdfs while contacting a zoom conference, and using office for notes. When I started using this, I was amazed how fast you can link to zoom. My old laptop needed about 90 seconds to get zoom images to fully load.
Sorry for going on and on, but I think this should be a great purchases. Feel free to respond back.
By the way, the Ideapad 5 Slim is a good consumer laptop too if anyone else in your family needs to replace a laptop in the near future.
