The rear diff issue is pretty disappointing if you ever wanted to track it, but still a great little street car

I don’t know if I would personally call this affordable. Maybe my perception of car pricing isn’t aligned with the current reality but at least in Canada this car is not cheap.
In Canada the Core starts at 50k CAD and the Circuit Edition starts at 59k CAD. Assuming no dealership markup which is actually very hard to come by around major cities (especially around Toronto/GTA), it’s 56k for the Core and 67k CAD for the Circuit Edition OTD. An Elantra N 6MT for a quick albeit not direct comparison is about 46k CAD OTD.
My previous two cars are very different from the GR Corolla, but my 2016 mid trim WRX was 37k CAD OTD and my fully loaded 2023 BRZ was 40k CAD OTD. Neither are as fast or capable, but we’re talking about a 16-19k difference brand new here.
I know in the current market there isn’t really another hot hatch that’s like the GR Corolla, but I’m not sure that can excuse it from not even having heated steering and having this kind of interior/features for 56k CAD. I just don’t think this car is as affordable as people are saying, especially when most are either going to be paying markup or waiting years for an allocation at MSRP.
Right. All the other cars that cost $60k are way better cars.
Cool. I want an awd hot hatch though not a BMW M2. Because, first of all, i’m not a resident of LA. A specific kind of person buys that car, that person doesn’t match me at all. Like Corvette owners. A specific kind of person buys a Corvette.
But the Corolla is FWD.
TFL AWD Torture Test
Eh I can’t even get it very easily near me. Calgary dealers said their list runs 100s long. And the dealer near me does ‘preorders’, that don’t even guarantee a colour or timing on delivery.
So why would I waste my time on an “affordable”-expensive Corolla, when I can get a Miata in the exact colour I want? And with no markups.
Can’t even say Corolla has AWD if it turns off after 15 min.
In the U.S. I waited patiently and got my MSRP loaded Core for $40,044. Has the shift knob, all weather mats and cargo liner and frameless Homelink mirror as port installed options so you can get a loaded Core closer to $39K. Without the Tech and Cold Weather package it’s under $38K.
The car at $38k-$40K USD:
For vehicles under $40K honestly the Elantra N 6-speed manual, GTI 40th DSG and GR Corolla Core (with PP) are the 3 best “affordable” performance compacts.
This is pure cope… can’t even say its got AWD.
What part of my comment is “pure cope”?
