I finished watching the Figo Affair: The transfer that changed football and Im just shocked a transfer like this happened. From Figo being an exceptional captain at Barcelona, mocking Real Madrid , Florentino Perez beating Lorenzo Sanz as President of Real Madrid and revolutionizing the brand, dealing with threats from Barcelona fans to the point where he feared his own safety, him admitting he wouldn’t leave , as well how much Barcelona meant to him.
Wait until you read about Maurice Johnston.
This actually happens around the world. It’s just that too 5 leagues haven’t had it until this point. I learned a lot. As strange as it might sound it made me like RM a lot more.
Figo only went to Barça because he signed a contract with Parma and another with Juve and because of that he was not allowed to sign with an Italian club. Regarding the transfer to Real it was his agent that sign the agreement with Perez. His agent had a Power of Attorney to sign on his behalf. Agent thought he was smarter than Perez and wanted to leverage Barça. However Perez had a clause on the agreement that if Figo did not delivered he had to pay Perez so much money that Figo would be bankrupt. And so Figo honored the transfer. The following year that same agent was part of the Zidane transfer.
English better be your second language
In the end it’s just a job… Think people trick themselves by playing to much emotions etc. into the players. A football player in most cases has most likely as much emotions towards his club as a bus driver has to the bus company he’s driving for. Like it or not… it’s the hard truth that many don’t like to hear… because it destroys their vision of football…
I think you are missing out the adulation and relationship part of football. A football player can be loved at a club like Figo was at Barca. I doubt a bus driver ever has fans or not even close to the same scale. There is a relationship between both sides so it’s not a great comparison.
A documentary made to make a buzz on something that isn’t that dramatic. Sad that the only thing people can say about one of the best wingers ever is about his transfer.
Don’t forget the pig head
in the documentary it wasn’t mentioned as far as i remember
how the hell they do a doc about it and don’t mention that?
One of the biggest judas in the football history. Still dislike him til now because of that transfer
I’m sure it would have gone differently in the social media era. Fans are even more unhinged
