Don’t even have to wait for the batteries to be out of the cars. V2G tech needs to be legislated into vehicles. Imagine school districts being able to take their electric school buses, that sit unused for large parts of the year, and being able to use them to lower their electric costs by charging their batteries overnight from the grid while electricity is cheap, and then selling the electricity back during the evening when electricity is more expensive.
Naaa I’m not willing to share my limited battery cycles with the grid.
Or even every vehicle being able to do home backup. The average new EV has more than enough power for home backup for 1-2 days, and all there needs to be for most houses is a one time install of an inverter and automated switch.
Really bad idea. Different optimization for the batteries. Great when you have a bunch of old, sub optimal batteries you can help share the load. Bad on a single car pack you want to keep optimal as long as possible.
Backup power, great. Grid connected, no thank you.
