How does comfort of the three models compare? I’m talking about current generations.
In particular, as someone 186cm tall, I find Corolla hatch not very comfortable, especially for longer distances. It’s just impossible to find a comfortable position behind the steering wheel. Either the wheel is too far or pedals too close.
Other things I’m curious about is visibility and noise level at highway speeds in those three models.

Same height as you, not a big fan of the new 3 and CX-30, the ceiling is really low unless I angle the seat too far back to not get back aches. But the CX-5 has that upright sitting position and tall ceiling I love. Excellent visibility too. That said, the natural resting position of my right leg had my knee against the center console which isn’t soft padded. I put 150 000km on it in 4 years and it only bothered me from time to time.
I’m happy with my 3rd gen Mazda3 though. Doesn’t feel as cramped as the new one.
I do miss the easy getting in and out of the CX-5. Just didn’t make sense for me to be carrying around 700 extra lbs of metal now that I live alone. Once I’m sat in, that older 2018 Mazda 3 is pretty comfortable
As much as I would like a smaller sporty car, I find myself needing the cargo space of the CX-5 quite often. Even just for myself.
I get you, as a musician I enjoyed how easy it was to load the CX-5.
But if I’m honest, I can carry almost as much with the Mazda3 hatch (again, 3rd gen though)… the CX-5 was much easier to load though, and I could put more in the trunk without having to fold the seats.
We have both a '21 CX-5 and a '20 3. As much as I love the sedan as my daily commuter, we always pick the CX-5 for long drives.
The newest CX-5 model years will perform best in terms of ride comfort and NVH. The torsion beam rear suspension on the Mazda3 and CX-30 somewhat compromises the compliance over bumpy surfaces, whereas the CX-5 retains independent rear suspension. I also find the 3 and CX-30 a bit cramped and I’m not a large/tall guy.
The one spot where the 3 and CX-30 easily outclass the CX-5 is in seat comfort though. The CX-5 seat materials and supportiveness are fine, but the shape and size are really annoying. There’s minimal side bolstering and it feels like your ass is sinking into a cushy bowl when driving.
At the end of the day, your best option is to test drive all three as much as possible and trust your instincts.
2018 mazda 3 > current cx30 > current 2019+ mazda 3 > current cx5
Id say 2017/2018 Mazda3 > 2017+ CX-5 > 2019+ Mazda3 > CX-30
The sportier suspension on the 2017/2018 Mazda3 and the CX-5 is so much better than the 2019+ Mazda3 and CX-30.
I want to feel the road through the vehicle. If I wanted something comfy I would have bought a Lexus.
While the 3 and CX-30 are pretty quiet in their respective classes, the CX-5 is a cut above in both ride comfort and noise.
Get a cx5 if you’re tall…if you’re fat and tall get a cx50… Road noise? What noise I don’t hear sht…
I find the 3 hatch fine from the drivers seat. It’s small but not claustrophobic. I do find the seat to be uncomfortable on my lower back sometimes though.
If you’re worried about comfort, I’d recommend the cx5. I find it more comfortable and not that much bigger in terms of driving it
Test drive them, and see for yourself.
Sure but I wanted to hear from people who actually live with the cars day in and day out. You can’t get this kind of experience just by test driving.

I hear the road noise with the CX5 after going 60 or over
CX-5 is the quietest on the highway, most comfortable, and has the best visibility. Followed by CX-30 and then 3. Seating position is really a personal geometry thing and you should try out all three.
