I can’t believe some people broke their screen intentionally to buy the new Steam Deck.

Posted this elsewhere and I’ll post it here too.

I own a steam deck 512GB and personally, i won’t upgrade to it as the incremental changes that have been made are not enough for me. I not only use it for gaming but also for various productivity and media consumption tasks.

I do think that a better screen and battery are good things, but the only things that would make me upgrade would be

    1. EGPU support
    2. More RAM (at least 32 GB) for a lot of browser tabs.

If the above is accomplished, then the Steam Deck would replace every windows device I own for gaming, productivity, and business, and this multi-tool like functionality in a handy form factor, with an open source OS is what attracted me to the steam deck in the first place.

The deck being a hybrid of a PC and console you can just wait for whatever iteration exists in 4 more years when its an actual upgrade.

This sub is just a meme page with a thousand posts a day talking about the same thing (VS OLED, I’m keeping the old one, model comparison etc). I get the enthusiasm for the OLED but is there no quality control from the mods here anymore?

I’ll wait till valve upgrades the hardware before I upgrade. Waiting on my deckhd screen to get here and hopefully it’ll hold me over for longer till then.

I’d be perfectly happy if there was an option to upgrade the insides diy. Of course they want to keep up with all the competition, it makes a lot of sense… but I personally feel a bit cheated. I love my SD and I don’t want to get rid of it, but it still feels a little underpowered sometimes.

My Deck is my only gaming platform since getting it a year ago, and I love it.

But I was also spoilt by the Switch & Vita OLED.

I’m gonna try to get a 512, but I reckon the second the buy option comes up they’ll all be gone anyways.

honestly the oled steamdeck really doesnt justify its purchase unless you either don’t have a steamdeck already or you just have money to blow imo. like the processor is just shrunk, not more powerful, so its gonna run games roughly identical to the original steamdeck

Except they will look MUCH better now. The Steam Deck is going from having the worst screen on the market to the best screen. That’s a big deal for people who value all types of performance (yes screen quality is a measurement of performance as well).

Insane to me that there have been literally 1000 posts about this shit. I even noticed when the sub said FOMOLED in the community tab, that was hilarious. Get one if you want to and dont get one if you dont want to like holy shit.
